Ford Freestar in Nigeria

The Ford Freestar is a capable minivan with excellent performance and all of the most up-to-date safety features. For 2006 models, packages and pricing have been streamlined, and prices have been reduced.

Although the Freestar is a capable saw, it isn't the sharpest in the shed. It was in its third year after being revamped in 2006, however, it is now outperformed by newer entries. However, the research firm J.D. Power and Associates has given Freestar a higher overall and mechanical quality rating than most. It outperforms any prior Ford minivan, so if you enjoyed the Windstar, you'll enjoy the Freestar even more.

Anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution are standard on the Freestar to help drivers avoid crashing in the first place. Self-sealing tires are offered, as well as a tire-pressure monitor. When swerving to avoid anything or entering a slick bend too quickly, the optional AdvanceTrac electronic stability control assists drivers in maintaining control.

Interior

Two people sit in the front row, two in the second row, and three in the third row of the Ford Freestar. In the second row, standard seating is a bench. Captain's chairs, which slide horizontally on rails, are also available. They also fold and tumble forward, similar to those seen in the Ford Explorer and Expedition, to provide simple access to the third row or additional cargo room.

The Freestar's seat comfort isn't particularly good. The driver's seat appears to have been created with the stylishly slender design in mind. (This may appeal to you if you are fashionable and slim.) The six-way power driver's seat's rake adjustment is manual, which is less convenient than power. Similarly, the captain's chairs in the second row are cramped.

The interior is exquisite overall, with the main point being a delicate watch-like clock in the middle dashboard. Ford invested more money on the interior of the Freestar, which is a significant improvement over the Windstar.

Driving impression

In the Freestar, there are two engines to choose from. The SE's base 3.9-liter V6 engine produces 193 horsepower and 245 pound-feet of torque and achieves an EPA-estimated 18/23 mpg city/highway. The SEL and Limited's 4.2-liter V6 engine produces 201 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque, but it only gets 1 mpg more than the smaller engine. The larger 4.2-liter V6 in the Freestar is the largest in any minivan, making it the best choice for highway cruising, freeway passing, and light towing.

When compared to the Nissan Quest and the Toyota Sienna's 242 pound-feet of torque, the Freestar's torque (the force required for merging on the freeway or ascending steep grades) is competitive with both engines. However, neither the Nissan nor the Toyota engines can match the 240 horsepower of the Nissan or the 230 horsepower of the Toyota. As a result, at greater speeds, the Freestar engine will be less responsive.

The ride quality of the Freestar is excellent, and it can manage even poorly maintained highways. The steering is far more responsive than it was in the last Windstar. It leans a little in corners, but it handles well.

Do you want to get yours?

The Ford Freestar is a reliable minivan with cutting-edge safety features and engineering. It's bigger and more powerful than the old Windstar. It doesn't have all of the bells and whistles (like all-wheel drive and navigation), and it doesn't seem as refined as some of the competition, but it's a capable vehicle.
