Ford Taurus in Nigeria

The Ford Taurus has become a symbol during the last three decades. It was lean and innovative in the beginning, but it is now a full-size front-wheel-drive sedan nearing the conclusion of its production run. This Taurus generation is now in its tenth year. It's sturdy and well-made, but the outside, interior, and packaging are all a little old. In 2013, it received minor changes to keep up with competitors such as the Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300, and Chevrolet Impala.

Lineup

SE, SEL, Limited, and SHO are the Taurus models.

Fabric upholstery, a rearview camera, Ford Sync with Bluetooth connectivity and a 4.2-inch screen, six-speaker audio, 18-inch wheels, and electrically adjustable front seats are all standard on the SE.

Automatic climate control, leather around the steering wheel, and a few more features are included with the SEL. Limited variants have Sync3, heated and cooled leather seats in the front, keyless ignition, and wood trim. Sony premium audio, a heated steering wheel, and safety features like blind-spot monitors with cross-traffic alerts are all available. The SHO is the top of the line, with a twin-turbo V-6 and all-wheel drive. It's fully equipped, including heated and cooled seats.

The front seat is divided into driver and passenger zones by a broad central console and a wraparound instrument panel, which is more common in coupes than sedans. The SE comes with a 4.2-inch screen as standard, but an 8.0-inch upgrade is commonly available. The SE has the basic Sync infotainment system, which controls a few basic phone and audio functions; the SEL has the superior Sync3 system, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Artificial wood trim is used on some Taurus models, while silver-painted plastic is used on others. The Taurus, on the other hand, isn't meant to be a luxury vehicle; even the Limited variant looks more like an Impala than a Lincoln.

The Taurus cabin should be large given its external dimensions, but it isn't as efficient as comparable sedans. The dual-cowl dashboard protrudes into the passenger compartment quite a little. The large, high center console takes up a lot of space while providing little storage for tiny goods.

Driving impression

The basic 3.5-liter V-6 engine is smooth and refined, and it drives the Taurus with ease thanks to its 288 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque. The 6-speed automatic transmission is geared low in first gear to aid takeoff, and it's quick and ready to roll at lower rpm. Although the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger have more horsepower, they are slower to respond.

The Taurus SHO is powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive is standard, and it performs an excellent job of transferring power to the ground. Though outmuscled by the Dodge Charger R/T, the Taurus SHO's smooth, broad torque curve makes highway passing a breeze.

On the normal 18-inch wheels, the SE, SEL, and Limited models ride relatively quietly and comfortably, but not so much on the 20-inch wheels. With a gentle and smooth ride, the Taurus is most at ease traveling on a smooth freeway. Our kudos to the cops who whiz the Taurus through the city streets after bad guys.
