Hyundai Accent in Nigeria

If you believe it's difficult to be thrifty while simultaneously driving a well-equipped new car, you should test-drive the 2020 Hyundai Accent. The Accent comes in three different trim levels, from the entry-level SE to the top-of-the-line Limited, so there's something for everyone's budget. Its 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine performs as well as the car's starting price suggests.

The lightweight Accent is enjoyable to drive and easy to pitch into curves at a pace that makes the tires shriek. In this scenario, the adage is true: driving a slow automobile rapidly is more enjoyable than driving a fast car slowly. The Accent's cabin is large and functional if you only need a no-frills commuter car; higher-spec SEL and Limited models come with more equipment than the base car, but all three come with touchscreen infotainment.

Pros and cons of this vehicle

Pros

  • Sophisticated styling.
  • Eager handling.
  • Businesslike cabin

Cons

  • Noisy powertrain.
  • Cramped rear-seat passenger space.
  • No hatchback body style.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine in the Hyundai Accent produces 120 horsepower and is mated to the front wheels via a six-speed manual or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The four-cylinder engine is new for 2020, and experts predict performance to be similar to last year's model, which had 130 horsepower. It's evident that the comfort of the ride takes precedence over deft handling. Despite this, the Accent is energetic, with a compact body that can easily be thrown into corners and even rewarding when pushed. The suspension does a good job of smoothing out uneven roads, although hard hits will cause vibrations in the interior.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Small cars are expected to have good fuel economy, and the Accent delivers on that promise. The new four-cylinder engine boosts fuel economy across the board: manual-transmission vehicles get 33 mpg combined, while automatic models get 36 mpg combined.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Accent's mature inside is well built, but it lacks the Kia Rio's playful aesthetic and the Honda Fit's back-seat spaciousness—the Honda Fit offers nearly six inches more rear legroom. The Accent is basic and honest, with a frill-free interior design. The black interiors of both test cars, while well-built, gave them a grim, business-like aspect. With the two-tone tan and black seats and a similar treatment for the dash and door panels, the optional beige upholstery adds a richer feel. Despite its sedan design and a reduced cargo area with the rear seats folded down, the Accent offered greater carry-on luggage space than Rio's more practical hatchback. In fact, when the back seats are folded, the Accent only holds two cases less than the Fit, which is particularly roomy.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A 5.0-inch touchscreen radio is standard, with USB and auxiliary ports for connecting devices, but the 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system found on the SEL and Limited models is more advanced. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as a second USB outlet on the back of the center console, are all available on the larger touchscreen. Both systems include Bluetooth phone connectivity, but the 7.0-inch touchscreen has SiriusXM satellite radio built-in.
