Hyundai Sonata in Nigeria

The Hyundai Sonata is all-new for 2020, and it's a wonderful example of Hyundai's trademark balance of appealing design and high-level equipment at a reasonable price. In a class with a few dynamic standouts, the 2020 Sonata isn't the best driver's car, but Hyundai has baked in decent handling and plenty of torque. The inside is large and stylish, with just enough buttons on the dash to compliment the well-organized and intuitive touchscreen infotainment system. The 2020 Sonata could be the automobile for you if you're looking for a car that meets luxury-brand standards at a reasonable price.

Pros and cons of the vehicle

Pros

  • Elegant interior.
  • Lots of standard driver-assistance tech.
  • Good value.

Cons

  • Jittery ride.
  • Not as nimble as rivals.
  • The top powertrain is slower than the base engine of some competitors.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Sonata isn't the sharpest handling in its class—the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima are both better in this regard—but it's nonetheless composed and responsive on the road. The ride may be a touch more unsettled and harsh than other cars in this class, but the Sonata's turbocharged 1.6-liter engine is at least relatively speedy; during testing, a Sonata with that powertrain reached 60 mph in 7.3 seconds, which is a respectable time in this class.

The eight-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and precisely. Experts also applaud Hyundai for keeping a traditional automatic transmission in its family sedan; much of the competition has switched to droning (but efficient) continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVTs). You'll enjoy the Sonata hybrid's fuel-saving efforts, but you'll despise how it doesn't seamlessly transition between gas and electric power sources.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

For the 2020 model year, a hybrid Hyundai Sonata will be added to the lineup, making it the most fuel-efficient of the group. Hyundai claims the Sonata hybrid gets up to 54 mpg highway, 50 mpg city, and 52 mpg combined, according to EPA figures. A solar panel array placed in the hybrid's roof serves to extend the hybrid's electric driving range.

The EPA rates both the regular 2.5-liter engine and the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine at more than 30 mpg combined, which is excellent. Experts saw 31 mpg in a real-world highway fuel-economy test of a Sonata Limited with the turbo engine. That's 5 mpg less than the EPA estimates but comparable to several other sedans that have been tested.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The interior of the Sonata is appealing and appears to be worth more than the asking price. The back seat is roomy and comfy, the materials are expensive, and the dashboard arrangement is simple and intuitive. The Sonata's 16 cubic feet of cargo space is about average for mid-size sedans, and it's neither the greatest nor the worst. Even so, you can fit seven carry-on luggage within its trunk, which is plenty of room for a long family road trip.

Do you want to get yours?

The Hyundai Sonata is stylish, comfortable, and well-equipped, but it falls short of the best-driving cars in its class when it comes to handling. You can get the best deals in Nigeria on Cars45. Head on there and select your preferred trim from the trims they have available for sale.
