Infiniti QX50 in Nigeria
The QX50 stands out among the premium competition because of its revolutionary engine and imaginative styling. Unfortunately, these distinguishing characteristics aren't enough to propel Infiniti's tiny crossover into the exclusive company. Nonetheless, the QX50 pampers its passengers with a luxuriously designed and soothing interior that can be customized with a slew of high-end options. The latter is only available on the most expensive versions, but each one is equipped with a variable-compression engine that tries to maximize efficiency and performance. Despite significant noise issues and poor highway fuel economy, the 2020 QX50 provides a luxurious ride with the desired amount of functionality.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Every Infiniti QX50 is powered by a variable-compression turbocharged four-cylinder engine known as VC-Turbo or VC-T for short. To learn more about how it works, read this analysis. The engine produces 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, and it's mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that sends power to the front or all four wheels. During steady cruising, the engine seamlessly switches to high compression, and during strong acceleration, it switches to low compression. Only those looking for a genuinely rapid crossover will be disappointed, as the pedal never exhilarates when it strikes the metal. Unfortunately, the engine produces a lot of noise when pushed hard, and the CVT generates a lot of noise as well, especially around town.
The Infiniti focuses on comfort and luxury, with a smooth ride on the highway and a composed ride on bumpy roads. Passengers are likewise adequately shielded from rough road portions. The steering input is balanced, and the Dynamic and Dynamic+ steering settings stiffen it considerably. While the steering wheel does not provide much feedback from the road surface, it has accurate responses and requires little effort. Unfortunately, the soft brake pedal on the Infiniti is inconsistent. As a result, the QX50's nose flops forward under severe braking on more than one occasion in rush-hour traffic. Even yet, in an emergency braking test, it only took 164 feet to come to a stop from 70 mph.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Quilted leather seats, wood interior trim, and a faux-suede headliner are available on the QX50's interior. These luxury additions, however, are only available on the most expensive model. Nonetheless, every Infiniti QX50 features a quiet and comfortable cabin, which includes a roomy second row with reclining seatbacks, which has been the highlight of the 2019 QX50 in our long-term test fleet so far. With the 60/40 split-folding rear bench folded flat, the QX50 holds 31 cubic feet behind the back seat and up to 65 cubic feet. With the seats up, we were able to fit nine carry-on luggage and 22 with them down. Both of these figures were higher than the BMW X3's. Expert's top-of-the-line test vehicle was equipped with a motion-activated power liftgate; none of the lower trims have this useful feature.
Do you want to get your own Infiniti QX50?
The QX50 boasts a unique powertrain, but it doesn't outperform the competition in any other way. If you're interested in purchasing one, go to Cars45 and look over the possible trims.
