Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co., Ltd. was founded in 1964 as Hefei Jianghuai Automobile Factory and changed its name to Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co., Ltd. in 1997. In 2001, the company went public on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

The company had traditionally primarily built commercial trucks under the Jianghu (undei) brand, but in the 2000s, it began to produce MPVs and SUVs. Even though the company had received official approval for passenger car production by 2007, it was still known to be a truck manufacturer. It collaborated with Hyundai Motor Company in the early 2000s in an attempt to broaden its product portfolio before obtaining a passenger car license in 2007.

The company produces a wide range of vehicles, ranging from commercial trucks to small city automobiles, many of which are direct copies of European or Asian models. The Tojoy, a Pininfarina-designed city car that won numerous awards in 2009, including the J.D. Power China Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) award, was designed by Pininfarina.

Passenger vehicles

There are several sub-brands of the company’s passenger cars, each with its distinct design language. Originally, the Heyue sub-brand served as the primary brand for sedans, hatchbacks, MPVs, and SUVs, while the Refine sub-brand served as the primary brand for big MPVs/minivans and vans.

Most Heyue vehicles were facelifted and relocated to the Refine brand in 2016, along with the release of a new logo for the company. Jiayue, a new sub-brand, was launched in 2019. Several Refine vehicles have been facelifted and rebranded under this name. In 2017, the Heyue brand was phased out, and the final models were replaced by electric versions.

Beginning in 2020, the company began rebranding Jiayue series vehicles as Sol vehicles. As a result, the Sol A5, Sol X4, Sol X7, and Sol X8 were created. The rebranding is a drive to consolidate all sedans and crossovers under the Sol brand, with the Refine brand focusing on MPVs.
