Land Rover Discovery in Nigeria
The 2020 Discovery is the ideal vehicle for this rare intersection of automotive categories. Off-roading and luxury rarely go hand-in-hand, but the car is the perfect vehicle for this rare intersection of automotive categories.
It's not only a true go-anywhere SUV, but it's also capable of transporting the family around town and completing errands on your weekend to-do list. Its upmarket cabin can seat up to seven people, and purchasers can pick between two V-6 engines: an economical diesel or a thirsty-but-muscly supercharged gasoline engine. When the going gets tough, an optional air suspension delivers extra ground clearance on demand.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Si6 versions have a 340-hp supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine, while the Td6 models have a 254-hp diesel 3.0-liter V-6 engine. Both engines are coupled to an excellent eight-speed automatic controlled by a rotary shift knob that rises from the center console when the ignition button is hit, even though neither engine is super-refined or vibration-free. All Land Rover Discovery models come standard with full-time all-wheel drive. The gasoline-powered vehicle took 6.3 seconds to reach 60 mph in expert testing, while the diesel took 8.0 seconds.
The Land Rover's adventure-ready purpose appeals to those looking for a vehicle that can do more than scour the mall parking lot, but it comes at the sacrifice of on-road skill. When changing directions, the Discovery's handling isn't as sluggish as the model it replaces, but it still feels awkward and top-heavy. You'll never forget you're driving a big SUV in the Disco. Overall, the ride quality is excellent—especially with the optional air suspension—and even the most severe bumps are readily handled. However, steering feel is lacking, particularly on-center, where a significant dead spot necessitates repeated steering corrections while cruising down the highway.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Land Rover Discovery's interior features high-end materials. Our Td6 HSE Luxury test vehicle's two-tone theme skillfully mixed ivory leather on the door panels and dash highlights, dark-brown leather on the center console armrest and lower door panels, black soft-touch plastic on the dashtop, and open-pore wood trim on the dash with piano-black details. The rest of the inside is awash with luxury accouterments, and the level of comfort only rises as you progress through the trim levels.
For the driver and front-seat passenger, power-adjustable, heated leather seats with optional massage function provide adequate support and even better cushioning; second-row seats aren't as richly padded but do allow fore-and-aft and recline adjustments. There would be significantly fewer options for adventure if there wasn't enough space to transport things back and forth. The Disco's roomy cabin proved to be rather accommodating with a capacity for 29 of our carry-on luggage when both rear rows of seats were folded. When the Discovery is packed with would-be explorers, the maximum number of carry-ons lowers to only two below the third row.
Do you want to get your own Land Rover Discovery?
The Discovery may spend the majority of its days in the school drop-off line, but it yearns for outdoor adventure. If you're interested, go to Cars45, where you'll find the best offers in Nigeria.
