Although the BMW X1 crossover is classified as a subcompact by definition, it seems and feels much larger due to its height and spacious interior. Interior

In any setting other than Sport, the transmission will not shift down during uphill acceleration. Sport, Comfort, and Eco Pro are the Driving Dynamic Control modes. They alter the steering, throttle, and transmission sensitivity.

In a fraction of a second, BMW's all-wheel-drive system shifts 100 percent of the power to the rear wheels using a clutch and hydraulic pump system. The X1 has a composed but firm ride since it absorbs bumps more rigorously than competitors. Although the base 18-inch wheels are more comfortable than the optional 19-inch wheels, the optimum ride is obtained by replacing the standard run-flat tires with regular tires that have more sidewall flex.

The car's agility, with speed-sensitive electronic power steering that's swift and weighted on the hard side, astounds us. We'd describe the treatment as pleasant. On curvy roads, the X1 outperforms its competitors. This is where good brakes come in handy.
