Jeep Grand Cherokee in Nigeria
Even if SUVs hadn't taken over the world, the Grand Cherokee would still exist. It was one of the first SUVs to not penalize its passengers, and it was equally at home bouncing off a boulder in Moab as it was bumping gently into a parking log. Although the current generation is ancient (it was released in 2010), a succession of incremental upgrades and common roots with the classic Mercedes-Benz ML-class has kept its charm alive.
Part of the attractiveness of the Grand Cherokee is its flexibility to be customized to the needs of its owners. The standard Laredo gives all of the Grand Cherokee's famed off-road and on-road capability at a reasonable price, while the upmarket Summit pampers its passengers with a luxurious interior. Regardless of which version you choose, the Grand Cherokee is a capable and pleasant vehicle.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Grand Cherokee's standard engine is a V-6, although a V-8 is available on Limited and higher trim levels. The standard V-6 pulls well and transmits very little vibration into the cabin, so that's the engine you'll want; it's well matched to the Grand Cherokee's heaviness, and it does a great job motivating it through town and merging into traffic. The Grand Cherokee, regardless of configuration, has a strong towing capacity—6200 pounds for V-6 models and 7200 pounds for V-8 variants—that increases its utility.
This utilitarian car is anything but sporty. Rough patches of pockmarked pavement send chills up the chassis and into the cabin of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Trailhawk test vehicle had a smoother ride thanks to the optional air suspension. The steering is tight and has a pleasant heaviness to it, and the Jeep tracks straight, making for relaxed highway travel. The Grand Cherokee's brake pedal is soft in the first few inches of travel, but it gradually hardens up, and performance is on the same level as the rest of the class. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is fuel efficient by SUV standards, thanks to the gasoline V-6 engine, and its highway fuel economy ratings were accurate throughout our tests. The V-8 has more towing capacity, but it also consumes more fuel. The test vehicle, equipped with the base V-6 engine, returned 25 mpg on our real-world highway fuel economy loop, matching the EPA's 25-mpg figure.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Depending on the model, entering the Grand Cherokee's cabin gives you a sense of roughness or elegance. A 7.0-inch driver-facing LCD is bordered by analog gauges, and the curved dashboard sports an infotainment touchscreen atop hefty, superfluous buttons and switches. Where it counts—armrests, top door panels, and the dashboard—Jeep designers utilize soft-touch materials and leather, but cheaper hard plastic is used elsewhere. The Grand Cherokee has 11 carry-on cases behind its second row of seats and a total of 24 when the back seat is stowed. The back seat splits and folds 60/40; the procedure is also smooth and tidy, requiring only one action to release the headrest and flop the seat down to its flat position.
