History of Creation
The Kia Carnival is a minivan produced by Kia motors owned Kia. It was introduced in 1998 and was sold globally under different nameplates especially the Kia Sedona. This car comes in four generations.
The first generation (1998-2005) was showcased in 1998 and was sold as a single, short-wheelbase car with rear sliding doors. It was marketed in different countries like Australia, Europe, North America, etc and the one sold in Australia came with a standard 5-speed manual and 2.5 L V6 producing 177 hp (132 kW). A 4-speed automatic was optional.
The second-generation (2006-2014) was introduced in 2015 and it came in both long and short wheelbase. The second generation weighed about 400 pounds less than the first. This is because it came with a lighter engine, more high-tensile steel in the body, and a lighter transmission and rear suspension.
This generation offered this minivan with four engines as well as an automatic and manual transmission. Other standard features of this include; six airbags, sliding doors with a "hold open" locking feature, Brake Assist System (BAS), and in-dash navigation.
Moving forward to the third generation (2014-present), it was introduced in 2014 at the New York International Auto show for the 2015 model year. It came with a 206 kW (276 hp) and 336 Nm (248 lb-ft) Lambda Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) 3.3-liter V6 engine with six-speed automated transmission and front-wheel drive.
All models of this generation have features such as iPod and USB input jacks, AM/FM stereo with CD player, auxiliary audio input jacks, alloy wheels, and much more.
Then we have the last generation which was debuted in June 2020 and was built based on the Hyundai Kia mid-size platform.
Why Should You Get This?
It Doesn’t Appear As A Van: The Kia Carnival is one of the most good-looking cars you can ever get. The smooth flowing panels give it a sleek appearance, and the sliding back doors aren't particularly noticeable or weirdly.
The front of the car has a large Tiger Nose grille supported by LED headlights. The Carnival is long, but the on-road footprint isn't as large as it appears. Overall, the car takes a unique design approach that makes it stick out highways.
Stylish and Spacious: This car is spacious and accommodative as it can occupy as many as 9 people including the driver comfortably. And if you desire great space, you can opt for the Carnival Limousine as it gives you tons of legroom. If space is what you desire, this is a must–get for you.
Outstanding Ride Quality and Features: The Kia Carnival's ride quality is quite smooth and cushy. All the seats in the car offer great supports and cushioning. It as well offers amazing features like a ventilated seat, electrically sliding rear doors, dual-pane sunroof and an 8.0-inch touch screen with UVO connect amongst others.
Powerful Engine: Kia equipped the Carnival with a 2.2-liter diesel engine. To handle the weight of a minivan, a torque-heavy diesel engine is required, which Carnival has. The 2.2-liter diesel engine, which is coupled to an 8-speed automated transmission, delivers 200 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque. The diesel engine delivers a lot of torque to the front wheels and travels quickly, which is unusual for a minivan.
Few Drawbacks
Poor safety features: the safety features in the base trims of this car are poor and unimpressive. This car is features-loaded but it is shocking that despite the full options, it only has two airbags.
Heaviness: the limousine variant of the Carnival is very heavy as it weighs about 2.2 tonnes. its power-to-weight ratio is comparable to the 2.8L diesel Innova. While driving, you can feel the car's weight at lower speeds, but it starts to perform perfectly at highway speed. It as well lacks power during acceleration; but, things change once you switch to Sport mode. Even at triple-digit speeds, the engines seem alive and operate admirably.
