Honda CR-Z in Nigeria

The Honda CR-Z is a compact two-seater with a hybrid gas-electric powertrain that gets 37 mpg according to the EPA. When ordered with the optional CVT, the two are combined.

The CR-Z is a car with a lot of ambition. Its goal is to show that small hybrids can be sporty, entertaining, and even sexy. Where is the proof? The CR-Z appears to be ready for takeoff, and it comes with a genuine manual transmission, which you won't find on any other hybrid. The tiny wheelbase provides added agility, while the interior is only big enough for two individuals. Isn't it true that two-seaters are hilarious?

We're not convinced, and we're only hesitantly convinced, that the CR-Z has accomplished its goal. It shows that a hybrid doesn't have to be a one-note player that exists for the sake of efficiency, but it doesn't break any new ground in terms of performance per gallon.

So we've got an aggressively styled hatchback with tried-and-true hybrid technology and a healthy dose of personality. Of course, it's not meant to appeal to the public, though it might afford to take a step in that direction. The CR-Z is a vehicle for people who value their individuality.

Model Lineup

Cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, a rearview camera, and a six-speaker sound system are standard on the Honda CR-Z LX. The CR-Z EX includes a visual display for the LaneWatch blind-spot monitoring system, as well as a more powerful sound system and updated exterior lighting and interior trim. Heated leather seats, HD radio, and a full-feature navigation system are included in the top-of-the-line EX-L Navi. The continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters is an optional feature that improves efficiency slightly.

Interior Features

The CR-Z doesn't have a back seat, but it does have a handy parcel shelf with individual storage. When all of the dividers are folded down, you'll have 25 cubic feet of the flat load area. That's a lot less than you'd receive in a traditional hatchback (like Honda's own Fit), but it's still a fantastic deal when compared to the other two-seaters. You can also transport a set of golf clubs if necessary.

If it weren't for the battery back under the load floor, there would be more cargo space. Lift-over height is already inconveniently high, and the short hatch opening makes issues worse.

The seats provide enough support, although taller drivers may find it difficult to get comfortable or fit inside without scraping their knees due to the limited range of adjustments. Because there is no backseat, we expected more seat travel.

Driving Impressions

The CR-Z is speedy compared to other entry-level hybrids, but that's not saying much: 0-60 mph takes 8.8 seconds with the manual transmission and 9.2 seconds with the second CVT, all of which are slow to lethargic by modern automobile standards.

You will discover that the Normal driving mode is well titled. It provides an appropriate blend of efficiency and performance for everyday driving. The CR-Z is dangerously slow in Econ mode. Outside of a school zone, we don't advocate hitting that button. Sport mode, on the other hand, is the polar opposite. It tweaks the throttle, transmission, and steering for better performance, more in line with what we'd expect from a spirited hatchback.

Do you want yours?

The Honda CR-Z is a sleek, fuel-efficient, and moderately entertaining vehicle to drive. You may get yours without any fuss on Cars45 for the best price available. Now is the time to go there.
