Honda Stream in Nigeria
The Honda Stream, a good-looking MPV, created a stir in the mid-sized MPV segment when it was introduced 20 years ago, and used car dealers are still selling it today, making good money off Malaysian families looking for a well-priced and reliable 7-seat vehicle that doesn't look like a bread box or a hearse.
It is physically smaller than its competitors, and the interior packaging is neither as creative nor as versatile as its competitors', but it is inexpensive and ideal for tiny families on a budget. At a time when huge MPVs with seating for seven and ample luggage capacity were being released, Honda recognized that many drivers were yearning for a small MPV that could accommodate five adults and two children.
Owners didn't want to drive about in gridlock and shopping malls all day as a 'bus' with the car carrying a full load 'only' on family outings. As a result, a modest, compact family hauler seemed the best option.
Walk around
The Stream cabin can accommodate seven people in a "5 + 2" configuration. One of the Stream's major fortes, like that of many Honda goods, is its styling. The car has a sporty image because of its slick streamlined shape and wagon-like appearance. The same 123bhp 1.7-liter four-cylinder engine that powers the Honda Civic 1.7 is located under the hood.

Engine and drive
It's quiet and smooth in the low end, with plenty of torque, but around 3500rpm, the engine opens up and becomes a touch more hungry. The 4-speed automatic transmission moves smoothly, and the smooth engine offers class-leading fuel efficiency, something owners are increasingly appreciating. Later, a 2.0-liter version was introduced, but for now, let's look at a 19-15-year-old 1.7-liter vehicle that was purchased.
Even with its basic 195mm wide 15-inch tire and alloy setup, the 1.7-liter Stream responds with minimal body roll when presented with a succession of curvy roads.
Many owners have upgraded to 16 and 17-inch alloy wheels, which offer the Stream a more aggressive and elegant appearance but result in poor handling around town, especially when loaded. Despite its athletic appearance, the Stream's suspension is still geared toward comfort, which is where it shines. It absorbs poor roads and bumps admirably, with little wind and road noise in the interior.
Interior of the Honda Stream
Grey/used reconditioned importers have had a field day with big sales throughout the years. When buying a 15 or 16-year-old flat, make sure you examine the inside. The interiors of Honda vehicles are reasonably durable.
The trim on the inside should be in good condition. The carpet and side panels must be in good condition and not loose. Seats should be able to easily move forward and backwards. If not, consider lubricating the seat runners. Make that the three-row seat mechanism is still functional. If not, ignore this vehicle because repairs are pointless and replacement is costly. All of the electrics, including the rear air conditioning, must be working properly. Look for curbside damage in the lower portion of the vehicle. In car parks and on the street, most owners would have been careless.
Its nearest competition is the popular Toyota Wish, however, the Wish is smaller and lacks the much-needed back air conditioning that Malaysians require. If you're looking at a grey/used import, double-check that the AP (Approved Permit) is valid and available. Because most Streams have a lot of miles on them, it's a good idea to have the timing and all other belts replaced right away.
