Hyundai Grandeur in Nigeria

The Hyundai Grandeur is the latest brand name for the Azera. It is a large, near-luxury sedan that competes with well-known four-doors such as the Nissan Maxima, Toyota Avalon, Chevrolet Impala, and Ford Taurus in terms of shape and price.

The Grandeur was largely identical to its previous model, except for body color options. Azera debuted in 2012, therefore it's time for a refresh. Azera and Azera Limited are the two trim levels available, with the latter including a panoramic sunroof and additional extras.

The engine capability and riding comfort of the Azeras are above average. A button-activated Active Eco function improves gas mileage slightly. When engaged, throttle and transmission responses are lengthened, and accessories operate more cautiously.

Apart from Genesis, Hyundai's luxury brand, Azera is the company's only sedan with a six-cylinder engine, being larger than the midsize Sonata. The Grandeur's powerful engine, combined with its sophisticated appearance, gives the larger four-door a more substantial feel than a Sonata. Azera is well-equipped from the start.

Interior

Apart from Hyundai's Genesis luxury-brand vehicles, the Grandeur/Azera has one of the best-looking interiors. In reality, it exudes a refined sense of luxury, thanks to its cockpit style, twin-tier layout, and soft-touch and matte-metallic surfaces. The bright inside trim is kept to a minimum. There are two-tone configurations available, with the higher tier being darker to match the Grandeur's upholstery.

Passenger and cargo rooms are excellent because a Hyundai Grandeur is nearly as broad as other full-luxury cars. Unlike some mid- and full-size sedans, the Azera can comfortably seat five adults. There's plenty of room in both the front and back, with plenty of room to stretch out.

The exception, as is customary, is the center rear seat, which is narrower and less padded. Adults in the outboard rear seats should have enough headroom, thanks to recesses built into the headliner. Quietness is an asset. All road and wind noise is muted, and engine noise is only audible when the throttle pedal is pressed hard.

Driving impression

Hyundai's 3.3-liter V6 engine delivers above-average performance. At high engine speeds, the V6 revs eagerly, attaining peak output. A Grandeur answers quickly and effectively thanks to the 6-speed automatic transmission. The transmission's wide range of gear ratios allows for quick acceleration from a stop and explosive passing reaction, as well as relaxing highway cruising.

In terms of ride and handling, the emphasis is on passenger comfort and competent control. The ride quality is on the verge of being spectacular. Within the Azera cabin, only the most inconvenient bumps and potholes are likely to be felt or heard.

Hyundai's finely-tuned suspension smooths even minor road imperfections without causing floatiness while providing surprisingly quick handling. Predictable weighting and effective centering are combined in electric power steering.

The Grandeur's gas mileage is in the middle of the pack for cars in its class. The standard sedan gets 20/28 mpg city/highway, or 23 mpg combined, according to the EPA. The Limited is marginally less fuel-efficient, with an EPA rating of 19/28 mpg city/highway, or 22 mpg combined.
